Description

I was able to catch about 3 hours of imaging with my new Evostar 80ED last night. The image isn't much, but my primary goal was to evaluate the Hotech field flattener and optics of the new scope. Optics wise the new scope seems pretty good. The field flattener performed surprisingly well even though my back focus was 56.5mm vs. the target of 55mm. New spacers arrived today so the next imaging session should be spot on.

I like the FOV the scope provides and look forward to a rematch with OU4 to see if I can get some better data on the elusive squid. All in all, the scope seems nice but I'm not real impressed with the stock focuser. Out of the box I needed to make a lot of adjustments to get enough tension to avoid slippage. It seems to be working now and since I use the ZWO EAF it should compensate for the less than stellar focuser.
